Emily's New Big Girl Bed
Since we couldn't have Emily continue to escape out of her crib and risk hurting herself, we decided it was time for a "big girl" bed. Emily now has Eric's old bed from when he was a kid. She thinks the bed it pretty cool....during the day time. She still fought at night last night for about 15 minutes. She even "un-childproofed" a child-proof door knob lock. In the end she fell asleep in her bed and stayed in there all night! Hopefully the nights continue to get better with no fighting.

Emily - Our Escapee
Emily has learned how to escape from her crib!! :( Last night she managed to get out of her crib 6 times in a matter of 15 minutes and refused to lay back down in her crib. She finally fell asleep in her rocking chair with her blanket and a couple of books. I had hoped the day wouldn't come. She didn't even stay in her crib after I put her in it last night once she fell asleep. I woke up to her in the middle of the night escaping so she ended up sleeping the rest of the night with us.
Big girl bed here we come.....let's just hope she doesn't give us a problem about staying in her room.

Emily's Birthday
We celebrated Emily's 2nd birthday on 9/15 with a Minnie Mouse themed party. My mom made Emily her adorable Minnie Mouse party dress. Annette made a super cute Minnie Mouse pinata that was almost too cute to hit. Emily had a GREAT time. Here are a few pictures of the fun day. Hard to believe our little baby is 2 years old already.

September 2012
Summer has been a really busy time for us. Casey finished up his Kindergarten year at Minnehaha. He had a great year and made a lot of new friends. Casey, Emily, and myself flew down to San Francisco at the end of June to attend Erica's wedding. It was great seeing family and doing a little sightseeing while we were there. Emily was a great traveler and slept the majority of the flight down and the flight back!
We moved to a new house in July and have been busy getting moved and settled in at the new house. It's up in the Salmon Creek area of Vancouver (North vancouver) so not too far from where we were before.
Casey lost his 1st tooth the day before he started 1st Grade at his new school! He was very excited for the tooth fairy to come, but wanted to make sure she left his tooth so he wrote her a note and left it by his pillow.
He has several more very loose teeth so it's just a matter of time before his mouth is full of holes!
Casey was also very excited to start 1st Grade at his new school. Eric and I both took him to school on his 1st day.
Erin and Chris had their baby (Emma) on September 8th! We went and visited them in the hospital and Casey and Emily enjoyed meeting their new cousin.
Eric and I took the kids to the Vancouver Sausage Festival this last weekend. None of us had been before and were suprised how nice it was. It's the 2nd largest Festival after the Clark County Fair. They had booths, food, music, games, and rides. Casey and Emily enjoyed going on a few rides.

Casey has been really improving in T-ball. He's doing better at running and catching the ball in his glove. Emily loves to do whatever her big brother does, so of course she loves to play ball too. Casey's practice on Friday was not well attended (just Casey and the coach's kids) so Emily got to participate as well. She ran and got the helmet and bat herself. She hits the ball off the tee and squeals with delight as she runs to go retreive the ball.
My 35th birthday was yesterday. Eric had to work, so I spent the first part of the day hanging out with Casey and Emily. Then my mom came up to visit and we did a little birthday shopping. She stayed with the kids while Eric and I went to dinner, where we met Chris and Erin, and Denise and Roger. Casey and Eric went shopping for my birthday on Friday night together. Casey made a shopping list for Eric of things he thought they should get for me. He picked out all of the items himself and did a great job. Eric also got me a new computer desk which I'm looking forward to being put together. The desk we are using now is from when I was in high school. I think it's been put to good use. :)
We had some poweful thunderstorms come through our area Friday and Saturday night. Friday nights produced some of the most powerful thunder I've ever heard. It was so loud and close that it not only shook the windows, but it also shook the house like we were having an earthquake. Lightning struck and then almost immediately the thunder came. One lightning strike hit a tree at the ball field Casey plays at and splintered it all the way down. Saturday's storm wasn't as powerful, but produced massive rain and hail. Casey and Emily had a great time collecting some of the hail and putting it in the freezer.
Emily is 20 months old now continues to learn by the minute. She is up to knowing 21 body parts by being able to point at them when you ask her where they are. (Head, Hair, Ears, Eyes, Nose, Mouth, Teeth, Neck, Cheeks, Shoulders, Arms, Elbows, Hands, Fingers, Tummy, Back, Bottom, Legs, Knees, Feet, Toes). She can recognize a bunch of letters when you ask her grab the magnetic letter off of the fridge. (B, C, D, E, F, J, L, M, N, P, R, S, T, U).
She's started to tell me when she has to go potty, or just went potty, by pointing at her diaper and saying "poo poo".
She's still waking up in the middle of the night for milk, but I'm hoping that ends soon. She's usually in bed by 7:45 and sleeps until about 3:30, has a bottle, and then goes back to sleep until about 7:30 or 8:00.
She loves to run and jump and can jump pretty well off of the ground now.
Casey is almost done with Kindergarten and is reading pretty well. He's able to read quite a bit now and his reading group is on First Grade level 1 now. He recently got to draw whatever he wanted to at school and chose to draw a picture of his PopPop Newlean cleaning his sailboat. He and Eric have been working hard cleaning up the sailboat and the dinghy and Casey is looking forward to taking it out for a sail with his Daddy.
We are preparing for the 1 year anniversary of Eric's dad passing away this Tuesday 5/29. We are doing his burial service on Tuesday and then having a small reception back at our house and having hamburgers for dinner (Eric's dad's favorite).

Emily is continue to be a busy, active, and fearless little girl. She is determined to do everything that big brother Casey does. She loves to play with him. She's learning new words, and seems to understand way more than she should at her age (19 months). She got ride on a real horse the other day at Erin's friend Tricia's in-laws house. She LOVED it. She also loves to ride her toy pony at home and give all of her babies rides with her.

Emily & Casey
We signed Casey up for Tee-Ball. He had his first practice last Friday and had a great time. We went to the store and got him a tee, bat, practice balls, pants, glove etc and he is very proud. He had to get a glove that looked like his Dad's, and he HAD to sleep with it because Eric told him that he slept with his glove when he was little. We are looking forward to watching him play games.
Emily wants to be right there in the action. She loves to watch Casey practic hitting the ball off of the tee. She sits on the step at the door until he hits the ball and then she claps and runs after the ball and brings the ball to Eric for Casey to hit it again. She also had to have a glove and ball too when Casey and Eric were playing catch.
Casey is doing a great job with school and learning to read. He's at reading level 14 which is above the average level.
Emily is almost 18 months old and is learning new things by the second. She can point out a bunch of letters (M, D, C, E, N, P, R, S) and says "Mom" for the M, "Dad" for the D, etc. She knows a bunch of body parts (Head, hair, eyes, nose, mouth, tongue, teeth, ears, cheeks, arms, hands, tummy, legs, feet, back). She has a toy that has a mat with all of the letters of the alphabet with a picture of an animal on each spot, and then animal toys that match. She can put each animal in the right spot on the mat without any help. She also loves to jump and is very proud of herself when she jumps off the ground.
It's pretty fun to watch Casey and Emily interact with each other. He is a great big brother and Emily loves her brother.

Starting a New Blog Page
Since the old site (http://www.newleanlife.com/) is going away, I thought it would be a good idea to start a new blog site to jot down stories, memories, and what's going on in our lives. One of my favorite things to do was to go to the old site and read about what developments Casey had at each time I posted. Things that you think you'll remember but life gets going.
Eric and I just signed Casey up for T-Ball Little League today. This will be his 1st official sport that he's going to participate in. This also marks the last chance of an event free weekend for the next 15 years! We are pretty excited to see him participate, learn new skills, meet new friends, etc.
Casey is doing well in kindergarden. He really enjoys his class. His best friends are Damian and Aly. Aly lives a few blocks away and they ALWAYS ride the bus together. He's learning how to read and increasing the number of words he recognizes every day.
Emily is growing like a weed. It's hard to believe that she's almost a 1 1/2 already! She loves Casey and wants to do everything that he does. If he is have a juice box, she has to have a juice box too. If he's playing with a toy, she has to play with the toy. The other night, Casey had one of his Toy Story toys and his "tee-tee" (old gray t-shirt...think blankie). Emily had to have one of the same toys and a tee-tee too so they were both walking around the house with matching toys and tee-tees. She kept saying "Tee-Tee". It was very cute. Of course the moment didn't last long enough for me to get my camera for a picture.
